Walenta Family Trip: Italy 2014

Various Dates:

Departing on April 5th and returning to USA on April 19th

Departing on April 12th and returning to the USA on April 26th

Departing on April 26th and returning to the USA on May 10th

One adult will be flying from Denver and returning to Denver.

One adult (senior age 68) will be flying from Jacksonville FL and returning to Jacksonville FL.

One adult will be flying from Philadelphia and returning to Philadelphia.

(We would like to meet up at the departing Airport for the Trans Atlantic portion of the flight so we could do that leg together.)

The person flying from Denver is rather tall and is looking at the possibility of needing extra leg room so a bulk head or emergency row seat would be a first choice.

Interested in looking at a package deal with an airline but would if possible prefer to pick my own hotel in Rome. If that becomes a problem, we can work around it easily.

Cities to sleep in and duration at each location:

Venice – 3 nights

Florence or Lucca – 3 nights (choice driven by hotel cost)

Rome – 4 nights
Sorrento – 3 nights

Hotels: Economy is the key to this trip. Looking for clean and safe hotels while keeping the cost down as much as we can.

Require a triple room and since it is three adults we would prefer three beds regardless of the size. If necessary, a queen and a twin size bed would work.
In room bathroom is required.

We do not need or want a lot of hotel amenities. Free wifi would be good and free breakfast would also be good.

Would like hotels that do not need up front payments if possible and are fully refundable.

Central locations in each city are important.

Rome: Termini or Vatican area will work.

Florence: Near the city center.

Lucca: Inside the wall.

Venice: Not on the mainland. Walking distance to the Rialto Bridge or St Marks is a plus.

Sorrento: Near public transportation.

(Looking not to double back upon ourselves at any point and will do various local day trips from each location).

Will travel between cities using a second class train ticket.

Suggestions for city passes if you have any. We will probably do a Roma Pass and can get that at Termini.

Do not care whether we start in any specific location and am interested in keeping the airfare cost to its lowest point.

Can fly into Venice and out of Rome or Naples (depending on the airfare difference between using Naples or Rome we can look into taking the train from Sorrento to Rome for the flight home.

Also interested in the cost of travel insurance for this trip.

Paul
